Who is Tui

Meet Mark Lowndes: The Heart Behind Tui n Friends

Mark Lowndes is a Samoan/European singer-songwriter, community facilitator, and the creative force behind Tui n Friends. With over 15 years of experience working with children and families, and a Diploma of Community Service, Mark's passion for connection, culture, and creativity shines through everything he does.

A Musical Journey Rooted in Culture

Mark's musical journey has taken him across Australia, Europe, and the Pacific Islands, sharing his gift through "Acoustic Room" tours, multiple EP and album releases, and performances on festival stages. But beyond the music, Mark has always been driven by a deeper purpose: to use his talent to bring people together and celebrate the beauty of diverse cultures.

From songwriting and poetry workshops with students across Australia and internationally, to creative and cultural programs with primary and high school children, Mark has dedicated his career to inspiring young minds and fostering cultural pride.

From Community Work to Tui n Friends

Mark's community work with Children's Health Queensland, where he supported families with young children, deepened his understanding of the vital role music and play have in early childhood development. It was this experience—combined with being raised by his Samoan mother in a tight-knit family—that inspired him to create Tui n Friends.

Raised with a deep appreciation for the village concept and the shared responsibility of nurturing children, Mark saw an opportunity to build something special: a space where families could come together to celebrate culture, spark creativity, and support their children's development through music, movement, and storytelling.

The Mission

Mark's mission is simple: "Use the gift for good." Through Tui n Friends, he's committed to bringing joy to children and families, creating a harmonious environment where cultural connection and community flourish. Whether through live sessions, digital content, or future offerings, Mark and the Tui n Friends whānau are here to inspire, educate, and celebrate—one "Cheehooo!" at a time.
